Rose Murphy says her husband uses the Baylinc service provided by the Baldwin Rural Areas Transportation System everyday. But ridership is up and Murphy says that's causing problems for commuters trying to find parking near bus stops. The Fairhope Baylinc stop uses a busy shopping center parking lot to pick up riders. Murphy says on some mornings, an empty parking place is hard to find."They need their own parking area and they need their own little shed for the morning riders when they're waiting for the buses."
BRATS director Taylor Rider says the problem is actually a good one to have.
"We're glad our ridership is up," says Rider. "But we realize we have limited parking at some of our facilities. We're meeting with mayors along the Eastern Shore to find permanent parking places and bus stop terminals to make this program an overall success."
When gas prices spiked at over four bucks a gallon, Rider says he added another Baylinc route. 17-hundred people used Baylinc last month.
