Another TVA Ash Spill

STEVENSON, Ala. (AP) - The Tennessee Valley Authority says it's
stopped a leak from a waste site at an Alabama power plant.
The agency says the leak contained gypsum, a naturally occurring
mineral that contains a substance used to make wall board and
cement. A spokesman says most of the seepage flowed into a settling
pond at the coal-burning plant.
A spokesman says Alabama emergency management officials are
trying to see if any drinking water systems were affected. A state
official says there are no homes nearby that could be endangered by
the spill.
It's the second breach at a Tennessee Valley Authority facility
in recent weeks. A rupture at a TVA plant in Tennessee last month
poured out 1 billion gallons of coal ash.
