Student Drug Testing Changes

Mobile County School Board members are set to consider a change to its drug testing program beginning this coming school year. A vote is expected Thursday at the school board meeting.
The initial policy affected Vigor High School, Theodore High School, Burns Middle School and Denton Middle School.
The proposed change would eliminate the middle schools and add Citronelle High School.
The drug testing affects students who participate in extracurricular activities, drive vehicles on campus, or whose parents voluntarily sign them up.
We'll keep you posted on what happens at the school board meeting.

So the point in identifying the offending kids is what? Are they going to put them in detention or teach them better chemistry so they at least don’t blow themselves up and burn their kids?

Rehabilitation comes from the user WANTING TO QUIT, it does not come from mandatory rehab programs.

Yeah no kidding. When I did my placement at an elementary school, my head teacher told me she was the only teacher on the entire hall who was not on Meds. I am sure she meant psychotropics.

This is a complete waste of money. How does it target the problem? Identify the offending kids then what? Check your insurance because I bet money it won’t pay much for treatment. Adolescents need plenty of inpatient treatment when it comes to drug and alcohol.

So, instead of the Flag Pole Prayer thingie, I guess we can have daily NA meetings. “Hello, my name is principal… and I am an addict!”

I just feel that kids are more likely to try drugs in high school than in middle school. I am probably wrong though. But I am glad they added another high school to the list.

I think if they really want to help kids get off drugs or to discourage them from even trying drugs, testing the middle school students is key.

However, I think that if a kid can use drugs and still make good grades, more power to ‘em!
