With careful concentration, Dewey O'Neal puts brush to canvas. He's guided through his creation by community artist Mary Rodning.“He writes messages for me in his wonderful writing so we communicate that way,” says Rodning.
The MARC Art Program pairs local artists and people with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities. The MARC consumers learn how to make a prettier picture.
“How to paint and boy I love to paint,” says MARC consumer Cindy Davis.
All these art programs are structured a little bit differently, for example you may start with a photo, the artist traces it on canvas and the student fills it in with color. It has different tasks for different skills. Consumers ultimately pick what they want to draw. Classes are twice a week. Many of the pieces will be part of the annual marc art show in august. The Show is August 7th at 6 PM at the Mobile Museum of Art. Tickets are $25 per person.
