SOMIS, Calif. (AP) — A woman in a U-Haul truck led authorities on a high-speed chase for more than two hours — going through downtown Los Angeles and star-studded Malibu — before she was finally arrested.

As viewers watched the dramatic chase on television, the driver eluded police Wednesday by driving on sidewalks, across grassy medians and into oncoming traffic lanes.

The woman, Alisha Mankin, was to be booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, recklessly evading peace officers, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance and misdemeanor hit and run, the California Highway Patrol said. She also faced drug and DWI charges on two outstanding warrants.

The chase, which began in the high desert city of Palmdale, at various times involved a state highway, Los Angeles city streets, a couple of interstates and the Pacific Coast Highway, CHP Officer Jose Nunez said.

It started when the 25-year-old Mankin and a male companion were pulled over by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy following a report of suspicious activity, Deputy Robbie Royster said.

The man, who had rented the U-Haul, was detained. But Mankin jumped back into the truck and sped away, Royster said.

The chase finally ended on a rural road in Ventura County when the truck ran out of gas. Mankin sprinted from the truck, yanked vainly on the door of another car, and then was tackled and arrested.

Homes to go,on wheels and she decided to go I guess.I guess this disproves the saying"you can out run their cars but you can’t out run their radios”.grin

Razorsharp, this “chase” was totally pathetic. They had PLENTY of opportunity to P.I.T her, or SPIKE her tires long time before she damaged all the vehicles. If I were one of the ones who’s vehicles got struck, I’d be all on the PD like white on rice. She could have easily killed someone, and their blood would have been on the PD’s hands. The chase was on wide open, winding California Highways, there was no reason she could not have been stopped sooner.

You know what gets me about all of these televised police chases? These idiots always seem to run from the police in the most cumbersome and painfully slow vehicles. Why is that? I mean, if you are gonna do it…do it right. Test drive a Ferrari…and just keep going. How about a new Corvette Z06? Heck, even a turbocharged VW. But why oh why do they choose mini vans, pinto’s, huge blundering SUV’s, bread trucks, and now U-haul trucks. You have already lost this chase moron. What gives?

Yeah, I watched this on the live feed for about one hour. It may seem kinda sick to say it, but I was hoping to see the u-haul bust into a thousand pieces, or a good PIT maneuver or something. I can’t believe the idiots in California actually let this woman drive at 45-55 miles and hour, for over a hour and a half. If that have been Mobile,Alabama,  they’d shot her tires out, and beat the fire out of her when she stopped. Very lame police chase, don’t expect to see it on Spike TV!
