Today, the U.S.Senate votes on an amendment thatl would allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines.
South Dakota Senator John Thune introduced the bill. It would give gun owners that right as long as they obey the concealed gun laws of the state they are visiting. The Republican lawmaker offered the measure as an amendment to a $680 billion defense spending bill. It's backed by the National Rifle Association. New York Senator Charles Schumer, a gun control advocate, says Thune's amendment "could endanger the safety of millions of Americans."

Web Wednesday:

Do you think you should be allowed to carry a concealed gun across state lines?
Also, if this bill is passed, will you feel more protected or fearful?

yes anyone who has a concealed carry permit should be able to legally carry their weapon across state lines anywhere in the United States of America, and yes I believe the country would be a safer place knowing that the criminals are not the only ones armed.I carry mine everywhere that I go and try to avoid establishments that prohibit them,I would rather be caught with it than to be caught without it.

The reporter sounds like she is against this and brought up the statistics of gun related crimes.

I challenge her to find one gun related crime where the criminal had a conceal carry permit.

If you are a legal gun carrier, you should be able to carry it wherever you go.  You are carring it for protection, not criminal activity. State lines shouldn’t have anything to do with it.
Criminals have there guns with them regardless, why shouldn’t we be aforded the same, after all we are the law abiding citizens who purchased, registered and permitted ours.

I feel that you should be able to carry concealed weapons into other states.  I for one feel safer with a weapon to protect myself.  Actually I don’t carry my pistol but keep it in a convenient place in bedroom.  I want the right to carry a concealed weapon wherever I go.

I am a female who often travels out of town alone.  I keep my pistol next to me at all times and this is a great security to me.  Of course, I have a permit to carry.  The ones who do not have a permit are the ones that we should be concerned about having guns on their person.

I am a lady and would like to continue to be treated as such.  I make sure that my pistol permit is renewed yearly and I carry my pistol everywhere that I go.  When I travel I feel very secure knowing that if I break down that I will at least have some protection until help can get to me.  Everyone knows that it is not safe for a woman of any age to travel alone but there are times when we have no choice. I do not know which states that do not honor the Alabama Pistol Permit but hopefully as long as I abide by all their other laws I will not have a problem carrying my pistol.  Keep guns legal.

If you have a pistol permit for AL, the states of MS, TN, GA, FL will honor that. I don’t see why you couldn’t carry a concealed weapon with a permit because thugs carry one without a permit.

You don’t know what thug has under his shirt or in his pants while walking beside you at Wal-Mart or at the gas station, etc.  Maybe if they thought more citizens would be carrying a concealed weapon too, they would think twice before doing some of the stupid things they do.

To the ones who are worrying about everyone having a gun and a shootout happens, get you a gun and you can be in the shootout too. I’m not going to be the one whose family member has died and I say “I wish” I had a gun and I could have shot that person before they shot my family member.  If I die in the process, I’m going down trying to protect my family if I have too.

In my mind it doesn’t go far enough, although it’s a great start.

Many colleges, malls, factories and office complexes prohibit weapons within their boundaries - and so are periodically attacked by disgruntled nut cases.  When this happens victims are trapped with no means of self defense - and casualties run high.

Police are doing a great job, but they cannot be everywhere.  They are their as a deterance. Everyone should have the right to defend themselves and their families.  Criminals will have guns.  If more law abiding citizens are carrying, criminals will not be as confident when committing crimes and this will deter many of them from doing it, just as the presence of police.  As for the statistics on the number of gun deaths,  what we don’t know and never will is how many deaths would their have been by criminals if nobody were allowed to carry.

The criminals don’t care what the law is, they break them anyway. The only thing they care about is not getting caught. This would give them one more worry, “Will I walk away?” When the U.K. banned guns, crime rates soared, because crooks new law abiding citizens could not defend themselves. Plus many states already respect concealed carry laws from other states.
