Unpaid tickets landed several people in Mobile's Metro jail Wednesday morning.
Police call it a warrant sweep and it took place in the Roger Williams Public Housing community.
People who had one or more misdemeanor warrants were arrested. Police say most of them were unpaid tickets.
In all, 26 people with 53 warrants were arrested.

rmseek1234 thank you for putting forth the olive branch here.  There’s good and bad everywhere.  And since your husband is a good police officer i truly appologize and say I was not talking about him. I understand if you and your husband are risking your lives for the better of man kind your two are great human beings and have a lot in common.  My anger came from those that don’t do right.

MeAmerican,

Hope you enjoy your day in Mobile. Let me know-we’ll do lunch-lol.

And on that note, is it more practical for you to see all your patients on a particular floor around the same time, rather than traipsing back and forth between floors? I know it is more practical for me to cluster my visits to one geographic area, rather than trying to drive from Grand Bay to Mt. Vernon all in one day. This was-in my opinion- a matter of practicality and common sense planning. To have 26 people within a 1- 2 block area of each other, with warrants, makes more sense to get them all at one time.

They could have saved themselves the problems by paying to begin with. Does my bank just overlook if I overdraw my account-no I have consequences. It’s about being a responsible citizen. No, most of these people aren’t responsible, or they wouldn’t have 6 kids by 21, or have speeding tickets, or no child restraint violations. But they should be held accountable for their actions. Again, this cost no more to do this warrant sweep, than it would have any other day. These officers were already working-special ops. And since they were brought in, and had to pay before being release, the city collected money to help better it.

Cops don’t refuse to go to an area. They are cautious wherever they go. There can be someone wired on PCP in Country Club, just as easy as their is a crack head in the projects or a meth head in Irvington. Just like with health care providers, we don’t refuse to take care of particular patients-it’s part of the job and part of the territory. cont…

sweetnsour,

Perhaps we got off on bad footing here-my opinions are based on my experiences-I go into the projects all over town every week to see patients, as well as the “slums” and nicer areas all over the county. I see how people live, and if they have money to get their nails and hair done, they have money to pay their fines. Yes, some of my opinion is based on my husband’s experiences. I mean, we talk and compare war stories, as I am sure you talk about your day with your family. If you hear stories on of some of the things that go on with daily police life, you would have opinions too. I don’t always defend the police-there are some bad eggs, just as there are in every job. But I do defend what they do, when they are clearly doing their JOB. As far as bad areas, yeah they are everywhere. Even in “Springhill.”

These people are released (most anyway), so they had to pay their fines to get released. cont…

PLASTIC!! That means they are not biodegradeble. Where’s that Callaway chick w/ the bay keepers. Can you imagine if one floats into Dog River? Gives new meaning to the name “Fowl River” HAHA! And yes I reckon those blue lights could bring a sigh of relief in times of need. Response time can be up in the air. I may make a trip to “The Mob.” this week and shake a few plastic police hands and commend them on job weel done. How about one w/ a sign that says $1000.00 fine for not using blinkers? I sometimes wonder if they even put that little lever on the side of the steering column of autos shipped to mobile. Maybe make one that will sit in the passenger side of the patrol car so it looks like the officer has his partner w/ him.

Hey MeAmerican! I see you’re alive and well this morning. I get a kick out of those cardboard cops, though I think they said plastic. I got tickled with BamaBob’s comment about them he said the first hard rain and they’d end up litter all over the roads, the very thing they’re there to prevent. I said they probably will be stolen and be used for drive by target practice in one of the projects. I can’t blame any cop for fearing for their safety, they want to go home to their families too and not in a body bag. All cities have areas where you fear for your safety and where a lot of the bottom dwellers of society seem to gather. That’s where and when you really appreciate your local police force. Some of the best services people get are never really thought about and appreciated until needed MeAmerican. That’s the way it is with your police forces. I might not like what they are required to do sometimes but it shore is good to see those blue lights when needed. Talk to you later, bye.

Remember 20years when mobile was flooded w/ cops. Speed traps everywhere! In case you haven’t noticed, the mobile police are impotent to speeders on the interstates. I’ve had several officers tell me personally, they will NOT write tickets on th interstate because it’s too dangerous. ( Mobile drivers)! So my question is , If you knew how dangerous the job could be and yet you declare that the projects( Most of mobile) or the highway to dangerous for some to work, Doesn’t that fall under the heading of irrational thought? Hey maybe they could take those big cardboard cutouts and place them in the places the real police are afraid to go. That’s another pretty stupid thing, take a large piece of paper and place it in a median to tell people it’s illegal to throw paper there!?!? Bet people could buy those cutouts to put outside their c-stores! Wonder how long it will be before someone takes the cardboard cop and tapes him to a Krispy Kreme billboard. Would that be paper cop nabbing?

I will have to say the police in Mobile are out-numbered.  I hate to take up for the popo but, Pascagoula Mississippi has one of the US highest popo to population ration.  They are everywhere and theres not a whole lot of mess going on.  I have lived there for years and they don’t do a whole lot of road blocks because they are able to handle their business.  And as far as free doughnut coffee etc.  That is automatic protection for the establishment when their car is parked outside.  The police even visit clubs, they only visit and make sure everything is orderly.  If you don’t mess up you don’t have anything to worry about.
