33-year-old Anthony Forgione was shot Tuesday morning during a standoff at a home on Plymouth Avenue in Fort Walton Beach. "This is not a situation that any Sheriff or Police Chief wants to go through," said Sheriff Morris while fighting back tears at a news conference. "In my 34 years of law enforcement, this is my first. It's gut wrenching."
Deputy Forgione, who was a member of the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, entered the house and was shot by 47-year-old Mark Rohlman of Navarre. Rohlman was then killed by officers.
"You couldn't ask for a better deputy," said Morris. "He was a professional, god loving man. He was as nice as you could ever imagine. He was a professional, a true professional."
A trust fund for Deputy Forgione's family. Donations can be made to the Deputy Anthony Forgione Benefit Account at any branch of Beach Community Bank.
