Mobile County Public School students return to class next week. Teachers are getting prepared...not just dusting off desks and readying lesson plans but learning a valuable lesson that could help save the lives of their students.
Wednesday, teachers were trained on how to spot sexual abuse among their students. The training focused on detecting the warning signs of potential abuse.
"A lot of the students are not willing to discuss or talk about those issues that they're encountering, but if you're watching your kids carefully you can observe some of those things that may be occuring," said Mae Eanes Middle School Teacher Carl Davis.
In Mobile County, one in four girls under the age of 18 will be sexually abused. One in five boys will also become victimized.
"Most adults who have been abused as a child will say it was because of a teacher that I got help," said Child Advocacy Center Educational Coordinator Paula Loper.
The Child Advocacy Center says everyone is responsible for the welfare and safety of our children.
Here are a few tips on how to detect if a boy or girl might be a victim of sexual abuse.
Even though the signs are not usually visible, you can observe how a child walks.
Also listen to the type of language they use -- listen to see if they have more knowledge of sexual behaviors than another children their age.
And: Watch to see if they have distrust for adults -- such as shying away from someone who is giving them a "good" hug or touch.

Hasn’t there been a huge number of these teachers that are actually commiting the abuse? Kinda like giving the bank robber the keys to watch over the real criminals. Kids have wild imaginations and can be led into coversations that have the potential to wreck families. Also there isn’t enough time for teachers to give students the individual help some require, so they give them a task to spot individual potential problems they are unqualified to observe. The public schools, teachers, and advocacy center are wrecking peoples lives one family at a time.
In order to keep funding for the advocacy center, there must be cases where they can prove their worth. In the proccess they use questionable investigation techniques. They lie, threaten, and coerce kids and parents. I’m sure at some level there is good being done at tax payers expense. I have yet to see it though!

Well, you can’t teach people trust or common sense.  My son had a teacher named Mrs. Casey last year.  He went to school crying, he didn’t want to be in school.  He wanted to stay home because I had a day off.  The more attention she paid him the more story he told.  By three oclock in the afternoon I was contacted by DHR that they were going to put him in a safe place.  He told them that he was upset because we “made him go to school” He was scared to go home because we laid the law down on him, you have to go to school.  He spent the entire weekend in his “safe place” they offered to return that child to me on Monday, their findings “spoiled child”.  The DHR worker said we are sending him back home.  You can’t get common sense out of text book and Ms, Casey no longer works for the school system and I got compensation from DHR.  I donated that money to help other people out that were going through the same situation that I was.
