The I-10 Bayway was turned into a parking lot Sunday morning. Alabama State Troopers say, they got several complaints from drivers about a group of speeding motorcyclists heading west on Interstate 10.
One Alabama State Trooper near the Wilcox Exit reported seeing the bikers speeding at over a hundred miles an hour.
Anothter trooper further west estimated they were going over 140 miles an hour.
Troopers called ahead and blocked the westbound lanes of the Bayway near the Causeway exit and stopped the motorcyclists.
12 were taken into custody.
Authorities say the motorcyclists were all taken to the Baldwin County Jail and are charged with traffic violations.
News 5 spoke with one of the bikers, Terry Moore, who says the 12 arrested were part of a larger group of military and retired military riders who were on their way to Mobile to take part in a cancer charity event.
Moore claims the "real" speeders avoided the roadblock. But, he says he's not bitter and that the troopers were just doing their jobs.

My comments are only referring to the riders who endanger others on the road. I have nothing against your normal average everyday motorbike rider. Honestly, if you pay attention, most of those folks are laid back enjoying the wind and sun with big smiles on their faces. When I see a motorbike coming up behind me or have to pass one, I try to pay more attention and be respectful since they don’t have 4K of metal around them. Hope you guys don’t think we are knocking you all. Ride on~

Most of you who are leaving comments just dont get it.Sportbikes are made to go that fast,if you dont believe these bikes will do 175 mph,you are so wrong.Or maybe you cant comprehend. What they did was against the law,so i guess that makes everyone who rides one a criminal?Just like the comment that everyone who rides a harley is a fool looking for attention as the one comment stated? There are alot more idiots out there that drive cars by a longshot. What you dont understand is that riding a motorcycle gives us all a feeling that cant be put into words,a certain kind of freedom that you cant get anywhere else.Im 35 yo,have been riding most of my life, and have never had a single speeding ticket, although i do have an occasional 150 mph blast down the interstate. All you haters need to give it up,all of us motorcyclists have a kind of brotherhood,we dont expect or want you to understand, because we have been dodging you on these roadways for years!!Ride on!!

PromisesMOM:  Just for the record, in case their was any misunderstanding in my rants, I AM IN NO WAY DEFENDING THESE RIDERS FOR SPEEDING OR WRECKLESS DRIVING, ETC.  I have had 2 friends, officers, total out their cruisers while chasing these type bikes and it is only by the Grace of God they are here to hold their children.  I was told many, many years ago, “You run with a pack of dogs, you are gonna get fleas.”  I’m not calling anyone a dog but just saying you are known by your associates.  And I SO AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE WIFE fussing about paying bond and impound fee, a headstone and a funeral would cost her a lot more both financially and emotionally.

I ride a scoot and I will not ever be caught doing over 100+ anywhere! The sport bikes are designed to run, but not on the public highways where you endanger other people! Loud pipes? You betcha’! They saved my butt more than once. Sure would like to see the dash cams on the troopers cars!

AWESOME JOB AHP!!!!!  This was an excellent example of teamwork between all of our state and county officers. For this type of thing to happen without any injuries or fatalities was amazing. These riders did break the law & they will pay the penalties. (no comment on the morons defending this as a case of “speeding”)
And the TAKE BACK OUR HIGHWAYS campaign is for everyone riding or driving in Alabama. It is an effort to make the roads safer for us and our children. It’s a sacrifice these officers are making to better our communitites. You haters out there should count your blessings! As for the wife of a rider, you should be grateful you’re paying for bail and impound fees rather than a headstone. There are many of us out there that have lost loved ones due to stupidity on the road! (btw, great coverage WKRG!)

I think most anyone who was doing more than twice the speed limit would and should end up in cuffs especially if the speed limit is 65mph. That’s getting to the point of endangering everyone’s lives on the road. I don’t think much would be news worthy if they were doing 70 or 75 mph in a 65mph zone. You took your chances and now you pay the money, I’m sure the state appreciates the money.

My last rant.  In my area we have several who ride crotch rockets and do so at a high rate of speed with no regards for their lives or others they share the highway with.  Any given day you can go to town and watch and you will see at least 1 popping wheelies and riding it on its back tire for a mile or so, showing off.  We have one who likes to stand up on the seat while he speeds through the middle of town, just to get the attention.  It is behavior like this that leads myself to think that those who have these bikes are adrenaline junkies that like the attention and keep taking it to a higher level to get the attention on a continued basis.  All it takes is one show off to make a bad name for everyone.  I am not defending these guys who got stopped by no means, but if it were me I think I would chose my friends more wisely if they were the ones racing and showing off and let me take the fall for it…..  For the wife of the rider, I would be pissed with the “friends” not commenters.

As I stated earlier it’s just a chance for “glory”. I mean sure the state troopers did their job and that’s a great thing. But why all the publicity about it. How many other speeding motorists go to jail or have their faces on News channels. I agree that they needed to be stopped but the way it was handled is outrageous. If they are going to do this for one group then let’s just forget about important news and just make sure we put every speeder on tv.

I must say that is what the cyclist who was interviewed did, he made the statement, ride as a group go down as a group.  He was not bashing the AHP for doing their job and for that I respect him for TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for his (or others in his groups) ACTIONS.  However, I agree with the poster who said if there was another group ahead that was speeding they should step up and not let their buddies go down for their foolishness.  For me, if my friends got me arrested and my bike impounded (which I do not own a bike), I would expect them to step up to the plate and take their punishment and not leave me as the fall guy.  With friends that will leave you to take the fall for them, you do not need enemies and quite frankly you do not need them for friends.  Supeona the DOT camera footage and the local news camera footage at the different mile markers and let us see who was actually the ones breaking the law.  I do not think the AHP is so blind that they would have missed another group
