Richard Russel is the man sheriff's investigators say is responsible for the murder of his girlfriend Kendall Rogers. "They have been boyfriend, girlfriend for less than four months and was living together in a residence of Gulf Beach Highway," says Buddy Nesmith with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
Her body was recovered from a shallow grave Wednesday in the woods not far from the couples home.
"They lived here less than a week. I heard them arguing every now and then sometimes outside," says neighbor Curt Galloway.
Neighbors in the Pleasant Grove community say they followed the news yesterday of a body being discovered in a shallow grave but they had no idea it was their neighbor. "We didn't know who it was at first and the news at ten just said it was a body and the cops came at eleven and that is when we knew," says Karri Gross who lives across the street.
Signs of children are scattered outside the apartment, Rogers leaves behind a 22 month old daughter now being cared for by an aunt.
Russell turned himself in before noon. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail charged with murder.
Rogers had been dead about 48 hours when her body was discovered. The medical examiners office list the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the throat.
