A Mobile man who shot and killed his ex-girlfriend will die behind bars.Wednesday Garrett Dotch learned his fate for killing Timarla Taldon.
A Mobile County jury recommended he be put to death and the judge agreed.
Dotch killed Taldon almost two years ago as she was leaving a sandwich shop on Old Shell Road.
During the trial, prosecutors showed that the two had a history of domestic violence and Taldon made every attempt to end the relationship, but Dotch didn't want to accept it.
Even though Taldon's family believe justice was served, there was no reason to celebrate.
"We've lost two children. Somewhere down the line, we failed, we failed our child," said Garret Dotch's father Gary Dotch.
"The thing about it is, it is two families, but they can still see theirs and when we leave here we have to go visit a headstone," said Timarla Taldon's mother Sarah Dinkins.
Garret Dotch is scheduled to die by lethal injection.
Sarah Dinkins told News Five that she plans to start a foundation addressing domestic violence issues.
She also wants to become an advocate for tougher domestic violence laws in Alabama.
