The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who robbed the Regions Bank in Malbis on Friday.

48-year-old Raymond Schaefer of Dulac, Louisiana was shot and killed by Loxley police after a short chase.

According to police, Schaefer walked into the Regions Bank on Highway 181 just after 9:00 Friday morning. They say he pulled out a gun, demanded money and then took off in a pickup truck.

Loxley police spotted the truck om I-10. Schaefer was stopped about a mile east of the Wilcox exit, but he refused to obey officers. When he pulled out his gun, police shot and killed him.

All four Loxley police officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The case will be presented to a Baldwin County grand jury.
