MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has granted prison officialsmore time to complete a mental evaluation of ousted Clarke County
Circuit Judge Stuart DuBose.
DuBose of Jackson is being held at a federal facility in North
Carolina, after his arrest in May on allegations that he violated a
restraining order by possessing firearms. DuBose lawyer Tom Haas
sought his client's release, saying he lacked medical care and
proper nutrition at the facility.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Bert Milling Jr. gave prison officials
until August 22 to complete the evaluation and file a written
report two weeks later.
The Alabama Court of the Judiciary removed DuBose from office on
an ethics complaint.
