NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Panhandle woman told deputies her
16-year-old daughter bit her when she tried to take the girl's cell
phone away.
A deputy found the woman with two sets of teeth marks on the top
of her hand, both with dried blood. The mother says she tried to
take the girl's phone as punishment for breaking curfew. Deputies
say the girl bit her mother to force her to release the phone.
The teen has been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and
violation of probation.

Well Mississippi there are ways to get around most of what you are talking about and basically just you and the parents are involved for about 90% of the time and it seems to be compatible with what DHR wants which is the welfare of the child and it frees up DHR to concentrate on other and more needy cases and since they have a limited budget every little bit saved helps them to look after another child. In the future if you become interested again let me know and I’ll tell you how we worked it out satisfactorily for everyone. We got a lot of kids out there that needs help.

Carl:  Bless you and the wife for opening your home and hearts to the young people.  It takes a special person to take in foster children.  It requires a lot of patience and understanding and I for one say Kudos to anyone who can do it.  The world needs more like you.  My husband and I also took in a foster child not long after we were married and it was a lot for us to deal with day in and day out.  If it wasn’t the parents it was the DHR or the guardian at litem.  Our whole world revolved around what DHR wanted us to do or who they wanted us to have the child meet with.  We did it and I wouldn’t change the experience but I learned that we were not cut out to be foster parents.  Again, God Bless you and your wife for trying to make a difference in young people’s lives.

Four girls 5 thru 18 ? Mercy! I bet all four at one time really keeps you and the hubby stretched out.

I know as tender hearted as I am, I would have a very hard time letting go. Heck, I’m having a hard time facing my 18 year going to college, and she’s going to rent a house down the road from us that we bought to fix up as an investment. I have 4 daughters, from 5-18. I know you should never say, “My kid would never do that”, but...my kids would never do it again, and I do believe that they would never do it. I hope this girl learns some respect for her mother, some respect for rules (goodness knows there’s rules you have to follow all your life, whether you’re 16 or 60), and some respect for herself. She should have used that phone to call her mom and at least let her know she was running late and why, and then perhaps the mom wouldn’t have taken the phone. It’s called being responsible and being accountable for your actions. That is something that even a child of 2 can do, to an extent.

RMSEEK1234 before you ever decide to raise these kids you better be prepared to do as nuns do, To take a vow of poverty as you probably know from yours. When we thought the parents were stable and responsible it was a hard thing to do to hand them over. Me and the wife are getting too old now to take many more, It’s getting close to a year now since our last one but we still check on them all. This girl that bit her mother is salvageable I believe. Girls that age are a hand full,They usually mature faster, are smarter and more energetic than boys. You have to be on your toes to be ahead of them on most things. this girl needs some down time somewhere to give her time to think about her attitude and actions.

I wish DHR could do more, to get some of these kids out of the horrible homelives they live in. I know they have limits. When I said what I did about DHR, I did not mean it offensively, Carl. I’ve told my kids before, when they don’t get their way or want to complain about limits-to call DHR. I can guarantee, if DHR wanted to visit me, they would give me a high-five. And if my kids decided they wanted to live elsewhere, they would be crawling back within 24 hours after realizing just how good they have it. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve popped their behinds, but what that girl did to her mother-well as I said, she’d be gumming those meals. And if it was considered abuse-oh well-she wouldn’t dare do it again, would she?

I would be afraid of Strickland. Sometimes they learn other tricks in places like that. But sometimes it is necessary. And there’s always boot camp!

I admire what you do, taking in foster kids. I would love to be able to do that at some point…

dont nite the hand that feeds you? and she bit her with those five thousand dollar teeth you had straignted

This girl seems like Strickland Youth Center material, I don’t know if DHR would get involved or not. I’ll have to take up for DHR somewhat due to my dealings with them for the last 8 years. Most of their personnel have a pretty good head on their shoulders but I imagine there are some that goes overboard. We’ve never received a dime for any of the kids we’ve raised from them so I’m not taking their side because of money. They get a bad rep but they do a world of good in most cases. This girl needs some time in the youth center to rethink her attitude and ways. When some girls get that age they get to be a real hand full.
