The man got away and police need your help to track this fellow down.
"We have more locks on our door now," and with good reason after Emily Strong came face to face with a man who broke into her home. "I think I scared him as much as he scared me."
After working a twelve hour shift she was sleeping when she heard a door slam. She came out of the bedroom, "At first I was like, am I really awake, did I just see a big man in my house? Then it kind of registered, oh he's not suppose to be here."
When it did register, "I came through the kitchen and grabbed the biggest knife I could find and the cordless phone and kind of ran after him."
She was able to get a pretty good look at him, an older man, 6'4" TO 6'5", with shoulder length gray hair. He was driving a black, late model Chevy Blazer with tinted windows and an Alabama tag.
Before getting to Emily's house, police believe the man and his accomplice went to other houses in the neighborhood, checking doors to see who was and who wasn't home. "If someone came to the door he would just come up with some excuse as to why he was there and go on to the next residence," says Elberta Police Chief Gary Peaden.
Strong is more aware of her surrounding these days. "It was 1:30 in the afternoon. You think stuff like this happens at night it just lets you know, it's going to happen anytime. If somebody wants to do a crime, it's going to happen anytime."
The suspect is still out there. Police say he should be pretty easy to recognize. He was also traveling with a woman. If you have information that could help police find him, you are asked to call the Elberta Police Department at 251-986-5300.
