November 21, 2008 – Approximately 8:30 this morning The White Collar Crime Unit of The Mobile County Sheriff's Office arrested Edmund H. Smith at his home, 3900 Windsor South, Theodore, Al., for theft of property 1st degree.Mr. Smith purchased a Ford Excursion from a car dealer in Wichita, Kansas and sent a cashier’s check for $1,000.00 for the down payment. He then wrote a personal check in the amount of $14,420.00 from an account that he knew had been frozen.
The White Collar Crime Unit will appeal to the Judge for a no bond on Mr. Smith because of him being a flight risk.

They can’t keep Eddie in jail. I see where Judge McMaken issued a “no bail” order Friday morning. Then Eddie’s lawyer shopped around till Friday afternoon and found another judge (named Smith)who overturned McMaken’s order and got Eddie out on bail again. It looks to me like judges should not be overturning each other’s rulings. We had a judge doing this a short time back. He gave breaks to a known criminal with the same last name as his. There was an investigation and he is no longer a judge. Maybe judge Smith should be checked out. And, if Eddie jumps bail again, his lawyer should be put in jail in his place until he can be captured. Or, maybe Eddie’s lawyer may already have his own ticket to Costa Rica.
