Cartee and 3 other teenage passengers were ejected from the vehicle when it left the road and rolled over on Cody Road near Grelot Road. Officers had been chasing the Mustang because it matched the description of another vehicle believed to be involved in an assault case on Gunn Road a short time earlier. Although it was later determined the teenagers were ultimately not involved in the assault case, the vehicle they were in had been reported stolen.
Eighteen year-old Richard Hamilton, a 15-year-old boy, and Cartee were seriously injured in the accident and taken to University of South Alabama Medical Center for treatment. The fourth teen in the vehicle a 17-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. Richard Hamilton died as a result of his injuries Thursday afternoon. Mobile Police continue to investigate the accident as well as the theft of the Mustang.
