Here is information from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office:On July 23, 2008, around 8:00 p.m., Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Officers were lead to a wooded area off of Bud Diamond Road in Brownsdale, Florida (South of Jay), in reference to the discovery of a massive marijuana field by an anonymous source. When narcotics officers arrived, they observed a plot of land, approximately 40 feet by 80 feet, which contained mature marijuana plants, some reaching 11 feet tall. The land is private property and leased by a hunting club. The plants had been well cared for, and the land had been cultivated and tilled prior to planting. This location revealed 1,183 marijuana plants. All of the plants were cut down and taken to be destroyed. The plants would have yielded an estimated $1.5 million to $2 million dollars in processed marijuana. No suspects are known at this time; however narcotics officers are continuing their investigation.
On Monday, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Deputies chopped down and seized 85 growing plants in the same area. Bill Gamblin with the Santa Rosa Deputies cut down the plants and then destroyed them.
Tharon “Buckshot” Godwin has been arrested and charged with Cultivation of Marijuana. He is out on bond.
The sheriff's office says Godwin was growing the plants on private property. They said he had water bottles, fertilizer, and pruning shears in his truck.
