Crime is to blame for an ammonia leak that caused an evacuation in one Mobile County Community.Prichard Police say last week, two men busted into the Delta Steel Company, tampered with an ammonia tank, then took off.
Fire marshalls had to evacuate the Whistler neighborhood while fire and hazmat crews handled the leak.
Neighbors tell News Five this isn't the first time they've had an ammonia scare with the company.
"It shouldn't be in a residential neighborhood. Because I mean I had to flee, but yet I have a brother across the street and he was asleep and we couldn't get him to the door and I'm thinking if they're saying it's gonna hurt us, but what about him?"Said Beverly Sharp, a neighbor.
The owners of the steel company declined to comment on camera, but tell us they believe their alarm system will ward off thieves.
No arrests have been made.
