LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The raid at an evangelical compound in
Arkansas was launched earlier than authorities had planned because
of an e-mail error.
The raid was moved up to this weekend after a spokeswoman for
the U.S. attorney accidentally e-mailed more than 60 local media
outlets on Friday about plans for an October raid at the Tony Alamo
(uh-LAH'-moh) Christian Ministries complex. Media organizations
managed to keep mum until Saturday, when authorities descended on
the complex. It was the culmination of a two-year investigation.
No one has been arrested, although authorities have said they
expect a warrant to be issued for Alamo. Six children have been
placed in temporary state custody and are being interviewed.
Alamo told The Associated Press Saturday that no child
pornography was made at the ministry but that "consent is
puberty" when it comes to sex. Alamo, who said he was in
California, said the government is trying to harass him.
