Bond is set for a suspected bank robber, who tearfully apologized to his mom while police walked him handcuffed to a patrol car.
Bobby Malone, 41, asked the judge to not let him out of jail, saying he had a crack cocaine addiction.
Malone is accused of robbing the Compass Bank on Overlook Road Thursday morning.
Police say he attempted to cash a stolen check, but when a teller refused it, he handed her a note demanding money.
Malone's uncle says his nephew has a wife, three kids, and a job.
"He's a wonderful guy. He's a hard working guy," says Harry Reed. "He's a bright, very intelligent person. I had no idea about the drug problem. I really didn't know."
Malone's mom says she was saddened by her son's arrest, though she did not attend his bond hearing Friday.
Malone's bond was set at $10,500. He is charged with robbery, theft of property and contempt of court.

The judge can set an amount of bond but if it is not paid, you will still be incarcerated. If Mr. Malone truly wants to stay in jail, he can just ignore the bond.

This actually sounds like burr rabbit begging to thrown out of the brier patch.

Have yall ever really sit and thought about our justice system and its shortcomings….Whats IRONY?? Irony is a Bank Robber pleading with a judge for him to stay in jail and the judge disagreeing, granting a $10,500 bond. Now, just think about that for a minute…Are you scared yet?

The bank robbery could have been his cry for help, probably not the best choice, but still a cry for help. And if he wants to kick that habit, he may feel that jail is the only way, most rehabilitation centers are only short term, do we even have an AFFORDABLE rehab center in Mobile?

I think this is very brave of this man to addmit that he has a problem. It doesn’t make his crime okay, but it takes cahouna’s to admit when you seriously have a problem and are begging for help from our system.  I hope he gets the help that alot of people need and as far as the robbery maybe a little time, but not for life! I pray he gets the help he’s asking for. I have seen really good people do horrific things because of drugs! Help him overcome his addiction so he can be a good husband and father to the children that need him desperately!
