A traffic stop leads to a trafficking charge. A Texas woman is in deep trouble in Baldwin County after almost six hundred pounds of marijuana is found inside her car.In all, 570 pounds of marijuana was taken out of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala Monday night on Interstate 65.
"The deputies and officers doing the search didn't imagine there was this much in the vehicle," says Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack.
A Texas woman, Elizabeth Armstrong sits in the Baldwin County Jail on a one million dollar bond for trafficking almost a million dollars worth of pot.
"On the highway, short of a tractor trailer rig, this is about as big as your get out of an automobile," says Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran.
The Sheriff believes Elizabeth Armstrong was headed north to Atlanta when she was pulled over for making an illegal lane change. The officer became suspicious and called for a drug dog who found the pot in the trunk of the car.
"For this dog, this was his largest." Randy Younce and his partner Tjordo were patrolling I-65 when the call came, "I responded to the scene, got my dog out, walked around the car and he immediately alerted to the trunk of the vehicle."
Wrapped in cellophane and axle grease, the marijuana was packaged and ready to be sold. Instead, it's off the streets in one fo the largest drug busts this year, in Baldwin County.
Armstrong will be turned over to federal authorities and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's office. No further arrests are expected.

My advice for Elizabeth Armstrong is plead not guilty and read Hank Rearden’s Speech to the court from Atlas Shrugged in your defense. The day has passed when twelve well intentioned individuals could be counted on to cage a fellow citizen for growing, trading, or consuming the most useful plant known to man simply because another human in a goofy looking robe tells them they are obligated to. Hand out FIJA leaflets at the courthouse on the day of jury sellection. Jury nullification is bound to play an important role in the fight against cannabis prohibition.
