AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - A psychological evaluation has found thatthe suspect in the slaying of an Auburn University freshman has
been faking hallucinations in jail and is fit to stand trial on a
robbery charge.
Courtney Lockhart faces several robbery charges and has pleadednot guilty to the March 4 slaying of 18-year-old Lauren Burk of Marietta, Ga.
A Russell County Circuit Court judge ordered the evaluation in
April to determine whether Lockhart was competent to stand trial
for an armed robbery in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Lee County Circuit Court Judge Jacob Walker ordered a separate
evaluation last month to determine if Lockhart is competent to
stand trial for both the robbery and Burk's murder.
The court ordered that the results of that evaluation be sealed
and proceedings in the case have been postponed pending the outcome
of the second evaluation.
