Seven Hills Fire Department Chief Paul Newton is taking stock of a very long day. Nearly 20 fires popped up throughout southern Mobile County Sunday afternoon. No one is sure why someone would do this.“Some people just like to watch fires and fire trucks it's as simple as that,” says Newton. It was a close call for some people. This blaze came within just a few feet of their homes. Wanda Black is happy to escape this fire with her family and home in tact.
“I was in shock because who would want to do something like that you know and I feel like it was intentionally set because there's nothing here just to catch on fire,” says Black. Most of the brush fires were concentrated in the Grand Bay area. Fire tore through an abandoned trailer and damaged an abandoned house. Grand Bay officials say there was no major property damage and no one was hurt. The Alabama Forestry Commission is investigating.
