"My sister showed me," she smiles. "And from then on, I enjoyed it."
She says the carving has a calming effect on her, but when she tells people about her hobby...
"They just kind of look at me and ask, 'Are you nuts? Who would want to do that kind of flowers?'" she laughs. "But then when they see them, they say, 'Hey, I like them.'"
Her daughter was married last year. Beuk remembers, "She says, 'Mama, could you make me some wood flowers...a bridal bouquet somehow?' I said I'll see what I can do, and when she saw it, I thought she was going to cry."
Basically all Beuk needs is a steady supply of small branches...which is good because she's disabled, and where we live, small branches are easy to come by.
Incidentally, since her daughter's wedding, other family members and their friends have requested a bridal bouquet of wood flowers.
