She admits, "I've got them in the bedroom and in the bathroom."
How many? "About fourteen hundred...plus."
Interestingly, she was not raised with a lot of clocks.
"Mother always said it was bad luck to have more than one clock in a room," says Caraway.
Now Moms are usually right, but not this time. "My luck has never been bad," says the clock lady. "I've always had good luck. God has really blessed me."
Most of the clocks come from yard sales, thrift stores...and gifts. And she made a fry pan clock and a wooden clock by herself.
It can get a little noisy as the hour approaches. But not all the clocks are chiming...or even running.
She says, "I don't really put batteries in all of them unless I'm expecting company or something like that...around Christmas I'll put some in there."
With most of them not running, the shift to and from daylight saving time is not a huge project. Is there a favorite clock?
She laughs, "I don't have a favorite. They're like kids. They're all my favorites."
At some point, Caraway is going to have to stop buying clocks. But...she'll know when it's time.
Caraway is also an accomplished woodworker...she made her own kitchen cabinets and drawers. Her next project is a full-sized grandfather clock.
