He says, "I'm on the web cam twenty four hours a day, eating, sleeping, counting and everything." There are cameras in the living room, kitchen, bedroom, and in the hall.
Friends stop by with food and drink, Skillet the dog is his companion, but Harper will not leave the apartment until he's reached a million. When will that be-
Harper thinks, "I'd say we gonna be looking at about eighty days at the pace we are now."
He started in the middle of June, but he has a lot of interruptions for Media Interviews.
One of the challenges...keeping track of the count.
He explains how he does that. "I have a program that tells me what number I'm on, and which one to read, and I just advance it with a little clicker I have in my hand."
So...how did the million count come about- "You know me and a couple of friends have done silly things and I came up with an idea about putting someone on the internet and making him count to a million, and see how many people watched. That idiot soon became me...After this...I gonna do something NOT on the internet."
His website is so popular that advertisements ar paying Harper's expenses. Any public donations, and they total over $3,000 so far, are going to PUSH America...a national charity for severely disabled children.
Jere Hough sits in front of his computer. He points out, "Eventually the count's going to be slow going. For example, 777,777 is one number...but twenty syllables. On County Road 5, watching Birmingham's Counting Man, I'm Jere Hough, News 5."
