This lady likes what she sees...or she would if she actually could see. She and several of her friends live in Mardi Gras and More.... It's crammed with Mardi Gras "stuff"...to decorate your space...or yourself. Most of this is on display year' round.
Store owner, Jeff Jordan, names his best selling items. "Apparel...shirts and things...we do a different shirt every years...a theme shirt"
NAT SOUND: (SILK SCREEN MACHINE)
Not only does Jordan design those shirts, he prints them himself. (Graphics is his original business.)
For all of its eye-popping displays, foot traffic is limited these days. This is Dauphin Street near Hamilton, and there are few other stores close by. Jordan was raised in this neighborhood when it was very different.
Jordan says, "I remember when there were antique shops down here. There was a music shop on the corner. There was an Army-Navy store here. There was a grocery store. Really interesting. I think there was a dance studio over here."
Speaking of days gone by...Jordan has a small collection of very old items his family found over the years...including this block...from when Dauphin Street was paved with wood!
He obviously hopes his retail business will help draw more stores. He says Mardi Gras helps. "Mardi Gras, when they come they walk around. They spend money. They go into the shops. They're here all day, especially during the day parades. It's a big boost."
Jere Hough is decked out in an outlandish hat and mask plus beads the size of volleyballs. "So what do you think- A little understated. But there's still time. On County Road 5 in Mobile, I'm Meteorologist Jere Hough, News 5."
JORDAN ALSO SAYS THE INCREASE IN APARTMENTS IN THE AREA HELPS BUSINESS, BUT HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THE LIMITED PARKING..
