Hatten explains, "The reason I loved it so much is that I understood everything. And that was the first moment when I was like, I actually speak French now. I can understand what's going on; I followed the whole story...it was hilarious."
He adds, "I wanted to direct a show, and I thought, what could be better than directing a show I've adapted myself.-"
Adapting meant translating the hour and twenty minute show from French into English...which he did.
And now "Vegas Under the Snow" is in final rehearsals. There are four characters played by local actors who share the adventure.
Castmember Cathy Bouler says, "...nice to be part of a premiere."
Castmember Christopher Spencer observes, "Well, I'm very impressed, first of all, with our director."
Fellow Actor Brad Byrne says, "It's one of my first times working with a director who is actually younger than me."
Actress April Smith clearly likes the show. "It's a scream...you're guaranteed to laugh if you come. Honestly, it's one of the funniest plays I've ever read."
Hatten, majoring in both theatre and French, returns to the University of Southern Mississippi this fall.
Meteorologist Jere Hough points out, "William Hatten has finished one year of college. He saw a play in Paris, liked it, found the author, got the rights to the play, got the right to translate the play, and is now directing it at Joe Jefferson Playhouse...."
Then he asks, "What's your summer project- On County Road 5 in Mobile, I'm Jere Hough, News 5."
