Sandra Rollo happily rolls away with $60 worth of gas for about $10. Her family was one of dozens who began waiting in line late last night. They spent a long time waiting for fuel. “We sat here and we talked, got some coffee at the gas station talked to the cars in front of us,” says Sandra. The money saved on gas is going to pay other bills. Donnie says he'll use it for his kids back to school supplies.
“I'm going to save about 150 dollars on tanks of gas on 4 vehicles,” says Donnie Smith. With one pump and about 5000 gallons to sell, people were eager to top off at the 15 gallon limit.
“You don't have too many people that's giving gas away for 66 cents a gallon,” says Smith
Officials with Terry Thompson Chevrolet say they're probably going to raise about $4500 with this promotion. That money goes to local education foundations.
“[I think it] shows that there's a lot of economic news out there and I think people are appreciative that there able to buy gas for 66-cents a gallon,” says owner Terry Thompson. The sluggish line stretched down Highway 98 and bottlenecked in the back of the dealership. The pump opened two hours early this morning because of the crowd. Workers had to stop people from getting in line at 7:30 this morning because they mathematically could not fill more cars. All those in line at that time were supposed to get gas.
