Opening up oil exploration in this country would be part of the solution, but I think it is time to look for alternative fuel sources at the same time.  I think a concerted effort made by a think tank or independent research group could get that ball rolling instead of bouncing back and forth.

it doesnt take a scientific mind to figure it out. get rid of the environmental tree huggers, allow oil companies to drill for our own oil.

While driving to work this morning and thinking about this world in which we live, I had a couple of ideas.  Watching the Mars landing over the weekend caused me to remember the early days of the space program and how so many brilliant minds were brought together to solve the problems that might inhibit space travel.  Look how far we have now come!

During WW II, the Manhattan Project brought together American, British, Canadian, and refugee European scientists.  Presented them with the problem, gave them a goal and the means to achieve their objective.  Mission accomplished!

Now we are faced with an energy crisis that has made us more and more dependant upon less than friendly countries and our whole economy can be shaken unmercifully by those entities.  Is it not time for the U.S. to bring together another group of great scientific minds and give them a clear objective for energy independence?
