Diesel hit a record high $4.76/gallon on Tuesday. Imagine paying double that.

British truckers are protesting soaring fuel prices. They're driving in a convoy to Marble Arch in the center of London before delivering a petition to Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Truckers want the government to compensate truck drivers for the soaring cost of gas. Record-high oil prices have helped drive the cost of diesel in Britain to more than $9/gallon. The truckers say thousands of jobs in their industry are threatened by the rising costs. Many drivers also object to government plans to impose an environmental tax on some gas-guzzling cars.

Well, I agree mostly with Poling. But I think he is now arguing for the sake of arguing. I dont think Oil companies should be making what they make, however, this entire “congress questioning Oil Exec’s” is a lame PR move. The Govt knows that its not the Oil companies that are setting the price of oil. Its the market, and the Oil companies are receiving the same % they always have, but now the price is skyrocketing. Hence the larger profits. You need not blame the Oil companies, but the investors who pour money into the stocks to raise the cost of oil in the first place. So, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Only diff. is, the poorer dont have the sense to wake up and allow themselves room to crawl out of the whole there in. They just sit back and let Uncle Sam and hard working whites to pay for their unemployment, welfare, or what have you.

Well lets see. The ditch digger makes his company how much money? Meanwhile the oil exc. makes his company a whole lot of money and he is being compensated for his work based on percentage. I work at a place where you get a commision and we have an employee who will get paid more than our president this month cause she wrote that much business. So you are paid on what your worth is to the company, dont compare ditch diggers and oil ext.

I’m sure there are lots of families living beyond their means and will try to milk the system for what ever they can get free. Me and the wife got a handle on our spending two or three decades ago and are much better for it, but I’m talking about the working poor who don’t even have a pot with a handle to grab hold of. I’m sure you know the saying about people with no pot. How can an oil executive get $100 million a year or something like that and tell the working poor that they have to tighten their belts a little more and that he feels he’s worth every penny he gets. His and his cronies pay all contribute to the cost of gas. How can you justify his pay and his pals? a ditch digger gets $7 or $8 for an hour of his life and these people get $48,000 for an hour of his life. One living high on the hog and the other can’t even feed their kids proper. Let me get out of here, I get too stirred up on the subject. No offense meant to anyone, just my most humble opinion, have a good day all!

Thank you mreman, no the oil companies should not get a pass. At the same time the government and people tend to blame the oil companies to much. I havnt heard one complaint about the fact that banks profit margin is 30% or credit card companies make over 25%. The problem is government; they condem oil companies and then wont allow big oil to drill in the gulf or off the coast of florida???

I dont think Poling believes that the Oil companies should get a pass, but on the contrary. I think he is saying that we all have a tendency to live outide of our means. He is also saying that the change has to happen within ourselves before it can happen on a much larger scale.

Let’s see, hmm, Would I rather have 10% of $130 billion or 10% of $30,000 a year, quite a hard choice, But wait the $30,000 ayear family ends up oweing money at the end of the year, I take the first choice! You sort of get what I’m talking about? It’s sort of like comparing a pea to a watermellon.

Ok, first of all for the person who asked if I have lived overseases. Yes in France, Germany, Greece, Kosovo, and Macadonia. And NOBODY was upset of gas prices. Here is the website for historic gas prices http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/international/gas1.html
People are making this a bigger deal than it needs to be. You can take any family who is “struggling” and finds things with that family that they could go without. Parents should not have kids if thier income will not support them, that a major problem in this country. Poor people tend to have many kids and then want the government to help. Plus look at the profit margin of the oil companies, its 10%.

No prob bro, we can only dream of EVER seeing those kinda gas prices ever again in our lifetime. It gets higher and higher every week, when I moved here in August last year, it was only 92cents per/liter. Now they are predicting it to be around 1.65 per/liter in August this year, which comes to 6.24 per/gallon, and diesel will probably be much higher than that.
