ordering the recall of over 9,300 youth beds because of the toy
chests attached to them.
The commission says the chest lids can close too quickly and
entrap a child. A 22-month-old boy in California was reportedly
strangled.
The recall involves two youth beds by Bayside Furnishings of San
Diego: the LaJolla Boat Bed and the Pirates of the Caribbean Twin
Trundle Bed. They were sold at Costco and other stores nationwide
from January 2006 to May 2008 for between $700 and $1,400.
The commission says the beds are OK, but parents and caregivers
are urged to immediately stop children from using the toy chests
attached to the footboards. Consumers can get a free repair kit.
