MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has passed a bill toexempt the federal economic stimulus check from state income tax.
The senate voted 32-0 today for a bill by Democratic Senator
Parker Griffith of Huntsville. The bill would save taxpayers $57
million dollars if the stimulus is considered taxable income for
2008.
There are legal questions about Griffith's bill because the
state constitution requires revenue measures to start in the House
rather than the Senate.
The legislature has four more meeting days left in the 2008
session.
