There might be another way to get around without spending a dime at the gas pumps. Some people along the Gulf Coast are parking their cars and getting on the Segway!
It's a battery-operated, two-wheel transporter.
The Segway can travel about 25 miles off one charge.
Pete Blohme drives his SUV about 12 miles from Daphne to Fairhope for work everyday.
He says he parks his vehicle and then jumps on the Segway where he says it saves him a lot of money on fuel.
"When I drive down here and my car sits all day, I've run up to get coffee, up the Coffee Loft to the football stadium, down past Cecil's on 98 up to Brunos, every where. It's gotta real long range and I just saved hundreds, and hundreds of hundreds of dollars running around on that thing every week," said Pete Blohme.
The Segway costs about $5,000.
The Mobile Police Department has been using Segways for the past year and-a-half.
You can find them patrolling the streets downtown or at the mall.
A police spokesperson says the department doesn't know if the Segways have saved on fuel costs because they were bought "in addition" to the patrol cars, not to replace them.

Didn’t the police downtown used to ride bicycles? Bet those didn’t cost us $5000.00. A little physical exercise won’t hurt.
