statewide are extending hours and planning special sales.
The state is waiving its four percent sales tax. Nancy Dennis, a
spokeswoman for the Alabama Retail Association, said more than 200
cities and counties are also waiving all or part of their local
sales taxes.
The tax-free weekend is designed to help parents with
back-to-school purchases, but anyone can buy items covered by the
sales tax waiver.

While it is a nice idea, to me it comes a little late in the back to school shopping season. If you wait until 2 weeks before school starts, you will find everything picked over and out of stock at a lot of places.I always do mine immediately after the 4th of July holiday, when they are getting things in-costs a little more, but saves me from having to run all over town, and the headache of kids saying they don’t like that brand shirt, etc.
