WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republicans have blocked a Democratic
plan to tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies.
Democrats on Tuesday failed, 51-43, to get the 60 votes needed
to overcome a GOP filibuster of the energy package, and bring the
bill up for consideration.
Democrats said the huge profits enjoyed by the largest U.S. oil
companies should be reined with motorists paying more than $4 a
gallon for gasoline and oil prices soaring well beyond $100 a
barrel. But Republican critics said higher taxes on oil companies
would increase - not lower - gasoline prices and reduce the
incentive for domestic oil exploration and production.

rosepetal you are correct, that is why they say it will take ten years to export oil from alaska, the rockefellers no how to slow down this process in this fast pace world, nothing will be done untill we have unity of the people and their is not much chance of this happening,i think the last time that happened was in the days of nixon and it worked,i would like to see it again.

ronald t, another bit of info for you the major stock holder in chevron is the rockefeller family
i found this for you to understand why they wanted to block domestic drilling, hope you get the picture.

Rockefeller is reported to have said: “Competition is a sin”. “Own nothing. Control everything”. Because he wants to centralize control of everything and enslave us all,  i.e. the modern Nimrod or Pharaoh.

this was from the early years now the rockefellers are major stock holders of chevron, thank God they were out voted when they tried to oust the ceo who is in favor of domestic drilling.

ronald t , lol ever heard of a hedge fund, the rockefellers, its not the oil business its the ones connected to the oil stocks, the high gas prices are a result of us having to be dependent on foreign oil the democrats know if we drilled our own america would not be dependent on them and they would have no platform to run on, and any country that has the oil we have would be drilling like crazy, but the green people are running congress.

answer to high gas prices vote out all democrats and tree huggers and drill our own oil and open new refineries, last one built was 35 years ago and take the oil from Irag to pay us back for freeing them and if any democrat or liberal repubicans dont like it vote them out, lets take our country back and stop letting these limp wristed crybabies make bone head decisions and laws that take away from the working man that built this fine country, I am proud of america not ashamed of it like these media driven loosers.

I agree we were better off in ways 8 yrs ago, but do you not think the dems in congress and the house have some blame to take?  I just worry that they don’t extend or make perm. Bushes tax cuts for the little guy we all wil be wantingthe government handouts that the dems are ready give without question.

eight years ago america had money now we are trillions of dollars in debt now is that progress?now we the people are going to follow the bad choices our govt. has made for us and now we the people are suffering for that ignorance.—-t—-.+

If the wrong man ends up in the white house this January, people are going to look back at this time as the good old days.

The tax and spend policy of the Democratic party will sink us into a depression for sure!  At least gas won’t be a problem, because most of us won’t have jobs anyway!

hay wait4me you are right but you have to blame someone,in this case it would be inviromental and our govt. that has no backbone and no longer can make a decision, now i stick by this one.—-t—-.

RonaldT- This has nothing to do with Bush, its about democratic versus socialist nation and the fact that WE would end up making the profits up for the oil companies. If a company is to make a profit only to hav ethe government take more because you make to much profit, then they should do the same for Microsoft, Coca cola, wal-Mart and other companies right? I think democrats will try to find every way to twist every story to be Bush and Rebiblicans fault. Instead of taxing the oil companies mor, they should let us drill our own oil and not be importing and start exporting.

lets see now the republicns voted it out and BUSH is in the oil business.——-duh——-.    t
