MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Attorney General's Office
has received more than 2,500 complaints since Friday concerning
rising gasoline prices.
A spokesman, Chris Bence, says the office's consumer affairs
line has received the calls from people who believe stations have
unfairly raised the price. The prices started going up as much as
30 to 40 cents a gallon Friday at some stations as Hurricane Ike
approached the petroleum rich Texas coast.
Gov. Bob Riley issued a state of emergency Friday evening. That
triggered a state law that prohibits businesses from raising prices
more than 25 percent when an emergency has been declared.
Bence says each complaint received will be investigated.

KxVicious , guess the gas stations got tired of the gas goughing complaints.  but get use to E85 its going to be the only fuel of the future.

That really sucks, considering that you do not get the same fuel economy with the 85% Ethanol fuel (E85).
The flex-fuel Chevrolet Impala, for example, gets an EPA-estimated 23/31 mpg (city/highway) on gasoline and 16/21 mpg when burning E85.

KxVicious, oh that is a shame, because in a couple of years and not that far off just about all fuel will be ethanol.

I don’t use Mystic stations anyway, as they are 10% Ethanol and I drive a foreign vehicle.

“When the law was enacted, national gasoline prices averaged about $1.23 a gallon for regular unleaded, meaning a price increase of 31 cents would be considered proof of gouging. On Tuesday, the average in Mobile was $3.93 per gallon, so retailers could have raised the price to $4.91 gallon without violating the 25 percent threshold. “

its not price goughing if the price of gas was raised to them.  i think people are just mad at the cost of fuel and taking it out on the stations and that is not right. these politicians are just grand standing. i noticed not one offered to take off the gas tax or has ever offered to freeze the gas tax during a storm. the government makes more money off of fuel than the stations. every time the cost of fuel goes up so does the governments profits.

In order to be gouging, the price must be raised 25%, that’s about a dollar per gallon.

Because they were trying to tale advatage of all of us we need to boycot there stations.  The shell stations have stayed the lowest.

Mystick stations all over town were higher than anyone else, i call it price gouging - and then they heard John Tyson and cut the price back to where it should of been!!!!!!!!!!!

KxVicious, lol wait and see. will you apologize if you are wrong. those stations might not have gotten gas at the new cost. wait and see.
