Ticket sales are dropping at NASCAR tracks around the country because race fans can't afford to pay for the gas to make it to the track on race day.

UNDATED (AP) - Race car tracks, from the mammoth NASCAR ovals to
the local dirt track, are scrambling to get gas price battered fans
into the seats and the infields.
Officials with one major track ownership group says ticket sales
have dropped by the high single digits this year.
Lowe's Motor Speedway president H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler says
about half of the tens of thousands of fans who show up for races
at the track in North Carolina drive from more than 250 miles away
and he understands their reluctance to shell out 300 dollars to
fill up the RV.
Track promoters are using all-you-can eat packages, driver
skills competitions and even rock concerts as lures to draw fans to
the races this summer.

BTW, I’m at work too . . .

I guess we just have different philosophies on opinions.  You see, I am probably in the ‘least preferred’ group of American citizenry: I am a white, male, Christian Southerner (and fiercely proud to be so).  I get into it with people on line who make snide remarks about my Confederate heritage when I mention that I am proud of it; I get the usual “bigot” , “racist”, et. al.  And although I have 100% positive proof that NONE of my relatives owned slaves, and that the Confederacy was not established of the sole purpose to perpetuate slavery, my family’s name is nonetheless impuned.  My point is that I get wore thin with people that hold an opinion that is not based in fact.  Sure, you or anyone else is entitled to hold ANY opinion you wish, but if it is not grounded on truth, then why would you want to claim it?  BTW: I am a lifelong racefan (30+ yrs.) and I don’t drink, and I don’t throw RC Cola cans when Gordon wins (even though I don’t like him).

CSAVIRGINIA,

I didn’t bow out, I quit posting after the week was over because I get on here at work and don’t post on weekends.  Just b/c someone makes good money doesnt mean they aren’t a redneck.  I run into people at work all the time that make great money, but they are as redneck as they come.  My postings on here are my opinion, I don’t need facts to back them up because they are MY VIEWS.  I don’t have time to research online all day for facts, I have work to do, school work to do, and a life.  I do enjoy however debating with you, it keeps the work day somewhat interesting.

While the rednecks stay home, think about all the jobs that will be affected. The guy who sold all those budweiser cans the rednecks chunked at JG will be standing in the unemployment line and facing a foreclosure.

My statement is neither laughable nor pathetic, and just like our discussion on God and government last week you can EASILY be confounded and refuted by facts.  I noticed you bowed out of that one when I hit you with just a small portion of the evidence that supported my stance.

According to ESPN’s reasearch on the topic, one out of every three adults in the U.S. is a redneck . . . I mean NASCAR fan, that amounts to 75 million adults ; and 53% of those folks earn 50K or more per year.  So, evidently those rednecks have a much better paying job than most of the ones that I know.

As an aside you NEVER have to worry about offending me, I’m not the least bit hurt by what you said.  I replied because what you said is factually errant.

CSAVIRGINIA,

that statement is laughable as much as it is pathetic. that’s why last year when jeff gordon won at talladega all the “rednecks” started throwing budwesier cans at him. maybe i should use a political correct term so i dont offend you, so we will just call them alabama citizens from now on.

News flash: Stock car races don’t just draw ‘rednecks’ any more KC, and even if that was true, why do you care?
