Churches and charities along the Gulf Coast are struggling to cope with the growing strain and gas prices.
Dauphin Way United Methodist Church delivers meals to those who can't get around.
Because of the high gas prices, a hospital that provides the food has raised its delivery price.
Instead of passing the extra cost onto those who receive the meals, the church is footing the bill.
Fuel prices have also affected the volunteer drivers who pay for their own gas.
"A lot of our drivers are on fixed incomes and so we have talked about providing them with gas cards to help subsidize their gas crunch because we don't want them to quit driving because they love doing it and it just a service we can't we need them for," said Dauphin Way United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels Coordinator Angela Crowley.
There are several meals on wheels programs throughout the Mobile and Baldwin County areas.
At Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, organizers are looking for more volunteer drivers who can spare an hour of their time each week to deliver meals. For contact information call: 251-471-1511 or click on the external web link on the right.

carl, no i missed it, but we talk about futre generations so much it makes me sick, what about the present generation they deserve something also. with age comes wisom, we are throwing our wisdom away. i think i will move to mexico and take them with me.  the golden years should be just that they worked payed their taxes now sit back travel plant gardens, etc.

And I try to look for the good in all situations-such as neighbors helping neighbors. Would you have thought twice about carpooling a year ago? I know I always call my neighbor when I go to get horse feed, to see if she needs any, to save her a trip and gas money. I saw a site a while back, where people could post their needs, or available items to share for those in need. I thought it was a great idea.

SWEAT! SWEAT! ROSEPETAL your not toying with me are you? You didn’t see that video clip where I called the “golden years”,“THE RUSTING YEARS” did you ? I think people get confused in their colors sometimes. No matter how bad it gets I always try to find compassion for other people no matter of their age. No matter how bad you have it, there is always people that have it a lot worse and sometimes that’s saying a mouth full.

carl , its sad isnt it, so much for the golden years, people work all their lives, retire
then this happens. we owe our older generation a great deal, they should be able to enjoy the golden years.

Unfortunately they will always have a market due to the two most populous countries on the face of the earth, CHINA and INDIA. LPJ1959 if you lived in my neck of the swamp here in SARALAND, you could go with us when we go to the grocery store or drug store. We have already been car pooling on some trips with a few people that really can’t see well enough to drive or other things. No organization or anything, just neighbors trying to help neighbors.

i do not think fuel will go to 15.00 a gallon not even with a hurricane.  i am so sorry this is happening especially for people like you. i really hate this. i hope it comes down soon.

I just dont know what we are going to do they say gas could go as high as $15.00 a gallon if it goes that high the oil people will start fealing it because there will be no gas being sold . I can barley aforde gas know. The only time we go to town is on payday we by groceries and git medicin and pick up what ever elce we nead in town and then we go home it is a 20 minute ride from my home to town and a 20 minute back home.
