WASHINGTON (AP) - Annoyed at having to take your laptop out of
its bag at airport security? The Transportation Security
Administration is offering a new option.
To help streamline X-ray inspection lines, the TSA will now
allow travelers to leave their computers inside "checkpoint
friendly" cases.
TSA says it's asked bag manufacturers to design laptop cases
that would provide a clear, unobstructed image of the computer as
it passes through an X-ray machine. The agency says the new bags
will be available for purchase this month.
To qualify as "checkpoint friendly," a bag must have a
designated laptop-only section that unfolds to lie flat on the
X-ray machine belt. It can't have metal snaps, zippers, or buckles
or pockets. Mobile Edge, Skooba Design and Targus are all selling
TSA-approved bags.
The new rules take effect August 16th.
