Congress is one step closer to helping Americans facing foreclosures. Housing Crisis Fix?

It's still got a long way to go, but a
mortgage rescue plan to save hundreds of thousands of homeowners
from foreclosure has inched closer to the finish line.
The Senate voted 76-to-10 to advance the measure. It includes
overhauls of the Federal Housing Administration, Freddie Mac and
Fannie Mae.
A new 300 billion dollar FHA program would help debt-ridden
homeowners to qualify for government-backed refinancing of more
affordable mortgages. But there are a few roadblocks in the form of
so-called ad-ons.
One of them is a proposal by Nevada Republican John Ensign to
attack an 8-billion-dollar package for renewable energy tax breaks.
Still, passage appears likely by the end of the week with enough
votes to override President Bush's promised veto.
The White House has voiced reservations about a
3.9-billion-dollar plan for buying and fixing up foreclosed
properties. Republicans view it as a bailout for lenders who helped
create the mortgage crisis. Democrats counter it's a way to prevent
neighborhood blight.

carl , are you sure its correct, because my personal home is not. it shows more square footage than i have.  now as for the vacant lots size they are ok. as for the old lady its probably something to do with her age, disability,  my sister in law informed us there is some kind of new law about homestead exemption ,her cpa caught it and she was able to go back and collect.

Oh, one other thing, does any one know if our tax assessments will go down because of the drop in housing values ?

I thought they were doing an annual reassessment of property taxes, I’m not doubting any one’s word about it, just trying to make sure I understand it correctly. And the information about going on line to see and compare with others in your area is correct. The wife just did ours a few days ago and we found one house larger than ours that had a smaller bill but the lady is a widow so I’m not gonna holler about that. OK I’m backing out and listening on the side lines.

southfan1981 , when some one refers to my comments, in a sincere way thats ok. but you were just trying to be smart.

Rosie, I did check the facts. You said your bill went up 100%. I checked out the areas that were annexed. I could not find homes in the areas annexed that had tax bills increase that much. Chill Out!

southfan1981 , no before you correct someone you should find out the facts. i sure do not directions to where i pay online my property taxes. i pay plenty.

My my, bless your heart. I was only trying to be helpful. Your numbers didn’t make sense and you said you were not exaggerating. Someone has made a mistake. No one has had a 100% increase in their taxes in the annexed areas. Like she said, check out the comparables. And Bless your heart!

mseek1234 , i doubt it we very seldom get along. yes tax accessor makes mistakes. they have one home listed as 2600 square feet. when its only 2300 square ft.  have to find time to straighten it out.

southfan, i saw nothing, and where i live is none of your bussiness . now can i look to see you buy a house in the 36695 zip code anytime soon. but not to worry i am sure some of my tax dollars will go to help you out. i go on that site to pay All my propety taxes. the key word here is All.

I think southfan was trying to be helpful, rosepetal. The tax assessors can make mistakes, and if your tax bill went up that much, you may be able to challenge it. Go to the website she gave you-you can type in addresses/or names of property owners around you and see what theirs is in comparison to you. It may be a legit increase, or it may be an error, but either way, I would check it. Might get some money back!

I know every few years they do reassess, and that can make it seem to go up a lot at that time. But then it will even out over the next few years until they reassess again. I want to say this is like every 4 years, but I could be wrong.
