Congress is one step closer to helping Americans facing foreclosures. Housing Crisis Fix?

It's still got a long way to go, but a
mortgage rescue plan to save hundreds of thousands of homeowners
from foreclosure has inched closer to the finish line.
The Senate voted 76-to-10 to advance the measure. It includes
overhauls of the Federal Housing Administration, Freddie Mac and
Fannie Mae.
A new 300 billion dollar FHA program would help debt-ridden
homeowners to qualify for government-backed refinancing of more
affordable mortgages. But there are a few roadblocks in the form of
so-called ad-ons.
One of them is a proposal by Nevada Republican John Ensign to
attack an 8-billion-dollar package for renewable energy tax breaks.
Still, passage appears likely by the end of the week with enough
votes to override President Bush's promised veto.
The White House has voiced reservations about a
3.9-billion-dollar plan for buying and fixing up foreclosed
properties. Republicans view it as a bailout for lenders who helped
create the mortgage crisis. Democrats counter it's a way to prevent
neighborhood blight.

Carl, this is another “HOME PAGE” for the office. I just discovered it.  It has a button for Annual Reappraisal information.

It’s amazing isn’t it? The tax assessments defy the laws of physics. It’s a set of scales in reverse, The value of the house and property go down and the assessments go up. A whole new area of science I guess. Must have to do with Exotic matter or thinking. shut eye

I looked at the Frequently Asked Questions. There are several factors that may allow you to be TOTALLY tax free.

Maybe I’m missing something Southfan. I haven’t seen where I could use my age to affect my appraisal, only when coupled with other things does age apply. I could very well be missing a viable option. If anyone find where age can be used without any baggage please let me know, I would certainly appreciate it.

There are tax exemptions with Homestead, age and disability. Also, occupying the home rather than it being a rental or leased home makes a difference. Square footage initially lists the heated portion of the home, then has additional footage based on garage and porches as well as out buildings or types of chattel. The first year after purchase, the tax may be different than later years because some discounts do not apply. Good Luck!

carl , you can i saw the article on the website but its not there now. glad i printed out the form. just have to find the time.

Sure, square footage always affects the assessment, but a lot of the times other things offset the assessment of square footage, The general appearance of the property and such. I have no Idea if you can retroactively invoke disability.

carl, well would not the square footage effect the assessment? and if they got the square footage wrong could not the assessment be wrong.  i know the property in baldwin county is ok. but i see mistakes big time with the mobile county. i also noted where they state you can not go back and get a refund on disability exemption before you apply, but i do not think that is correct.

I’m not sure about the assessment but that you can compare online to others in your area. I don’t think age has any influence on your assessment, just your income and if you are disabled.

You will get a higher property assessment each year. You can set you clock on that fact. You can also appeal that tax bill if you can explain breifly why your property assessment is too high. In most cases the tax commission will adjust your taxes down 1/2 the increase from the previous year so as to avoid any additional correspondence.
Ive appealed based on the home description before.
