ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - State tomato growers are appealing to theFood and Drug Administration for losses suffered from the
salmonella outbreak.
The Florida Tomato Growers Exchange sent the agency a letter
Wednesday asking for all of the state's tomatoes to be listed on
the FDA's cleared list. Florida produces between 40 and 50 percent
of the country's fresh tomato supply.
The federal investigation has moved on to raw peppers after
initially blaming tomatoes.
An agency spokeswoman said she had not seen the letter, but the
FDA has not ruled out tomatoes as a suspect.
