NEW YORK (AP) - Those little devices weren't so handy for a
while.
There was a major service outage of the popular BlackBerry smart
phones across the United States and Canada on Monday evening. It
lasted about three hours.
Officials with AT&T and Verizon said Blackberry maker Research
in Motion told them customers of all wireless carriers were
affected. But it's not clear how many of the 12 million worldwide
BlackBerry subscribers had problems. Some users had no
interruptions, but others couldn't gain access.
BlackBerry service lets users check e-mail and access other data
services on their handheld devices. RIM says service was restored
around 6:30 Eastern, about three hours after it went on the blink.
There's no word on what caused the problem.
