Faith Time: Mission Work

Mobile, AL (WKRG) - Sid Phillips is the senior pastor at Grace Bible Church in Mobile.  Here's a look at our conversation:

Chad: We wanted to talk about mission work this morning--describe the mission work you and your congregation is involved in.

Guest: We support 10 missionaries presently across the world. We have an annual mission conference hearing from missionaries from several mission boards. Some members are involved in local mission work.

Chad:  You've said you've found people still close to God despite poverty--why do you think that is?
Guest: They don't miss what they have never had. They have real contentment in Christ because He is real to them. They have a hunger for God's Word. Their lives have been changed dramatically by believing the Gospel of Christ.

Chad: In what ways has this community in the mission work grown since the trips there?

Guest: We're teaching the pastors, teaching husbands and wives Christian principles, so when you do that it has an effect on the community.

Chad: What are the dangers of mission work, do groups sometimes encounter governments or people hostile to their religion?

Guest:  Don't be a bull in a china shop who knows it all. Know your limitations. Oh yes, some religions do not tolerate the teachings of Christianity.

Chad: What is the most important lesson you've learned through mission work?

Guest:  To be thankful for all the blessings we have in this country. I should ever complain again about anything.

Chad:  How do you encourage others to join on these trips?

Guest:  Find out your gifting and get involved in a local church and ministries. Pray for God's leading.
