A large and blinding meteor streaked across western Canadian skies on Thursday, Canadian television reported. CTV broadcast video filmed from a local police car on patrol, showing a small light turning into a massive and blindingly bright fireball as it fell from the sky and appeared to hit the Earth in the distance.Police in the province of Alberta received hundreds of telephone calls by awe-struck witnesses of the rare event. Some people heard a loud "boom" noise in the distance as the meteor struck, Canadian media reported. Scientists are now searching for remains of the meteor, with some Canadian officials saying the meteor may not have actually touched ground.
