Footage captured on Wednesday by a security camera in Hastings, New Zealand showed two prisoners who were handcuffed together, foiling their own escape when they tried to run round either side of a lamp post. The two fugitives slammed into each other and fell to the ground, where jailers caught up with them and took them back into custody - adding charges of attempted escape to ones for assault and car theft.
Police said the men, who were not identified, were furious with each other after the botched bid for freedom.
The men broke free from authorities as they were being led away from separate appearances on Wednesday at Hastings District Court on New Zealand's North Island.
