Mobile, AL – October 26, 2008 – Picture hordes of Zombies moaning their way from Dr. Java Coffee Co.
across the University of South Alabama and terminating in the University Square parking lot in front of Dr.
Java Co. There they’ll find an abundance of “brains”, in the form of a pre-holiday food drive, live music,
and good old zombie camaraderie. The Zombie Walk, coordinated by Dr. Java Coffee Company, a
coffeehouse across the street from USA Campus at 5821 Old Shell Road that has caffeinated zombies for
more than three years, aims to collect 1000 pounds of food donations for the Bay Area Food Bank which
serves 24 counties in three states along the Gulf Coast. Our Zombie Walk also aims to put Mobile, AL on
the map as one of a growing number of cities to participate in the October 26th Zombie Walk, joining
forces across the globe to raise awareness of hunger and achieve an official Guinness World Record for an
International Zombie Walk turnout!

So, what is a Zombie Walk?
A Zombie Walk is an organized public gathering of two or more people who dress up in zombie costumes
and make up. The participants make their way around the city streets and through crowded areas in a
somewhat orderly fashion and often limping and gnawing their way towards a local meeting point. During
the event participants are encouraged to remain in character as zombies and to communicate only in a
manner consistent with zombies (such as grunts, groans and slurred moans calling for “brains”).

The Zombie Walk is a well-coordinated, international event. Participants in the Zombie Walk agree to
abide by a strict code of conduct. The Rules of Engagement (ROE) can be found at
www.drjava.com/zombie. No unwanted confrontations, littering, blocking of traffic, destruction of
property, alcohol outside bars, or any illegal activity will be tolerated.

When zombies have a chance to walk where zombified students walk like the living dead 11 months of the
school year, we hope the living dead will emerge from all over campus and county to participate. From
London, England to Brisbane, Australia this event has enjoyed large enough turnouts to catch the BBC
World News’ attention. We are hoping for the same massive turnout, and to collect enough food donations
to ensure nobody goes hungry on Thanksgiving. This is a free event, so we ask only for people to bring
several non-perishable food items.
